Plot: This is a documentary of Troy Duffy’s rise from bartender obscurity to screenwriter/director of Boondock Saints. The super nova from Hollywood flavor of the day to obscurity is filmed in painful detail. DVD Special
Features: Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital
2.0 Stereo) Deleted scenes, Directors' interview on "Backstage with Barry
Nolan," CN8,Cast and crew bios, Theatrical trailer. The film is behind the scenes enough. I wasn’t craving any extras when it was over. The Good: This documentary is great on lots of levels. It gives a really brutal look at the nasty side of the movie making business. The entire back room business of deal making is laid out in full political detail. The question that I have after watching this movie is can Troy Duffy really be this big of an asshole. Was he playing a character and is it all just a crazy performance art piece. If this film captured the real Troy Duffy then my heart goes out to his friends and family. The guy is out of his mind and it is no wonder that Miramax buried him. Its really awesome watching Duffy implode on the screen. He is so into himself it really gives you a pay off when all of it goes into the shitter. The Bad: Duffy and his friends are such total ego maniacs it’s unbelievable. A script sold, a record contract, a directing deal all pissed down the toilet because they are pretending to be artists. It’s enough to make you scream and near the end the unlikable qualities of everyone in the movie start to bog it down. In the end this movie felt a little long and a little repetitive. Duffy can only drink and tell people to fuck off so many times before we get the point. Bottom Line: I really liked this movie. Check it out. Rating: Three fucking cocktails |
