Review: The House Of Yes

Dir: Mark S. Waters

Cast: Parker Posey, Tori Spelling, Josh Hamilton

Category: Indie

Reviewed By: Frank

Plot: The prodigal twin brother returns from college with a new girlfriend to deal with his over-attached twin sister and eccentric mother. The weird younger brother (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is mixed in there too. Genevieve Bujold is great as the matriarch of this dysfunctional family.

DVD Special Features: Theatrical Trailers, Wide Screen Letter box format & DTS Surround sound. I would have loved to have Director or cast comentary for this one. Special Features a bad joke.

The Good: An unusual story is always intriguing to a guy like me but there is one huge reason to rent this one and it ain’t Tori. Two words. Parker Posey. Two more. Pink Dress. I saw this one about a year ago and went into a whole Parker Posey phase, renting as many movies as I could that she was in. I was never totally disappointed.

I’m a big fan of independent films and this shows just what kind of quality you can achieve with story and performance without the big studio. It’s the kind of film you’re thinking about after you see it.

The Bad: Twisted adult subject matter. Your girlfriend will think it’s weird if you like it. Your parents will think it’s perverted. Tori may thank you for denying you’ve ever seen it.

Bottom Line: If you think you’re indie but you haven’t seen this one, you’re not indie. That’s for you Clay you bastard!
