Review: Hellraiser: Inferno

Dir: Scott Derrickson

Cast: I am too embarrassed to name them

Category: Horror

Reviewed By: Clay

Plot: This is the fifth installment in the Hellraiser series. The plot is about the same, bad guy plays with bad box and really bad things happen.

DVD Special Features: Wide Screen. Special Features include; Secrets of the Box and a conversation with Pin Head. The special features are cool but way to short. It felt like they were going to do more with the features but ran out of money or time.

The Good: If you are a Hellraiser fan you might be excited to see another part in the series, but that will also set you up for a letdown. Hopefully your expectations will be low since this is the fifth in a series of really bad sequels.

There are a few good moments of suspense. The Director must be a fan of Jacob’s Ladder, because a few scenes had that type of feel. This was an attempt to be a more heady and intellectual Hellraiser.

The Bad: This movie fails on all counts. If you are a Hellraiser fan you want to see cenobites and tons of gore. This movie attempts to raise tension by being subtle and using the classic Hellraiser characters sparingly. The result is a boring movie with to little action.

The acting in this film is bad. Someone told the lead that he was intense and creepy looking so we are constantly confronted by him mugging for the camera. The director’s inexperience shows in this dog. I could continue to rail on this film but there is no point.

Bottom Line: If you absolutely need your Hellraiser fix, rent it… But beware, it’s bad.
