Review: Fishing With Gandhi

Dir: Gabe Weisert

Cast: John Reichmuth, James Reichmuth

Category: Indie

Plot: Donno is hitchhiking home from his mother’s wedding (she married his uncle) and catches a ride with Gil and Roy. Corndog eating and interesting conversation ensues.

DVD Special Features: Not available on DVD (true indie films aren’t on DVD) Reviewed on VHS.

The Good: This movie is about as indie as you can get. Made on video and with a cast of seven characters, you can’t get any lower budget than this. You have to appreciate what the director did with what he had.

John and James Reichmuth (twin brothers) play the brothers Roy and Gil. They do a great job bringing these white trash superheroes to life. Their conversations have a very real quality about them. The brothers give a great dissertation on the evils of interbreeding.

The Bad: This movie may have won some indie awards but the one it most deserved was worst sound. If you are going to make a movie revolving around the dialogue, make sure we can hear it.

Other than the brothers Reichmuth, the acting in this was horrible. Overacting, underacting (if there is such a thing), you can find it all. This film makes Blood, Guts and Octane (we reviewed it) look like Gone With The Wind.

Bottom Line: You aren’t an indie fan if you don’t watch this one. It’s so bad it’s good.

Rating: Five boxes of wine.
