Plot: When a young girl' s prostitute mother and drug-addict pervert stepfather are arrested, she sets out on a road trip to find her grandma. Along the way, she meets a big bad serial killer, who tries to kill her. So she tries to kill him. And then things get weird.DVD Special Features: Widescreen, English and Spanish subtitles, audio commentary, theatrical trailer. This disk needed way more stuff. The Good: Damn, but this movie is a kick in the ass. As you watch with your jaw gaping, you rapidly realize that it' s a twisted retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Reese Witherspoon is just fantastic as the white trash teenage runaway who has a "little problem with anger." No helpless victim, she can open a six-pack of whoop-ass with the best of ' em. Keifer is at his smirking best as the pedophile/necrophile/serial murderer, Bob Wolverton. Special cheers for Brooke Shields, who does a lovely job of playing Bob. s picture-perfect wife, who just can' t take it when her world falls apart. So what is it? A road picture? A serial killer flick? A girls-in-prison film? A fractured fairy tale? Yes, all that and more. You have to see it to believe it. And what an ending! The Bad: I don' t have anything bad to say about "Freeway." Okay, it' s tremendously violent, but that' s part of its evil charm. If you liked "Very Bad Things" or "Man Bites Dog," this movie' s for you. Bottom Line: Nasty-natured, grrrl-powered, butt-kickin' , bullet-flyin, foul-mouthed rompin' stompin' fun! Rating: Four shots of Southern Comfort |
