Review: Crumb Dir: Terry Zwigoff Cast: The real people Category: Indie Reviewed By: Frank |

Plot: A brilliant documentary about one of America’s most twisted cartoonists. The film chronicles Robert Crumb’s final weeks or days with friends, former business partners and family before he moves to France. The Good: Crumb is a very introverted person. Psychotically so. The film happens to come at a point in his life when he is forced to meet his friends and family members for the last time. Some additional input by critics and others in the art field provide some perspective on who he is and what he’s done. The filmmakers constructed their filming in such a way that Crumb felt he could converse with these people freely before he left. The circumstances lend a real honesty to the conversations Crumb has, and his past is examined the way families review their past after the death of a loved one. The Bad: Not much if you desire to learn a little more about this really twisted fellow. If you’ve never heard of him and are not a really, really, huge fan of angry satire and I mean really angry nasty misogynistic satire, you’ll hate it. Me, I loved it. Bottom Line: If you ever wondered just how weird a human being could be, and still make money, this is the film for you. Rating: 4 Zombies.
