Review: FearDotcom

Dir: William Malone (House on Haunted Hill)

Cast: Stephen Dorff & Natascha McElhone

Category: Horror

Reviewed By: Clay

Plot: People are dying horrible deaths and the one thing that connects them is that they all visited Fear.com with in 48 hours of there deaths. Stephen Dorff and Natascha McElhone investigate and begin their own race with death.

DVD Special Features: Theatrical trailer(s), Never-before-seen additional scene, "Mushroom People", Commentary by director William Malone and cinematographer Christian Sebaldt, Vision of Fear: Effects of fear dot com featurette, Fear Gallery stills collection, Widescreen anamorphic format

Functional special features. None of it grabbed me but if you liked this movie then they will enhance the experience.

The Good: This movie has a very creepy vibe about it. Had I not seen the Ring I would have enjoyed the premise of the movie.

The director did a good job with the atmosphere and filming of FearDotcom. The web site shots are cool (talk about super-Java) and the art director tried to make it all work.

The Bad: Here is why I don’t have more good things to say about this movie. See The Ring and then watch this movie. The movies have a similar premise but the Rings execution is so much better that this movie looks pathetic in comparison.

I am not saying William Malone or the writer ripped anyone off. I am saying that the similarities between the two films doom this disk to the bargain bin. I don’t know whose movie came out first but I know which movie freaked me out and it wasn’t FearDotcom.

Bottom Line: If you need a horror fix there are worse DVD’s to pick.

Rating: One spooky cocktail
