Review: Dracula 2000

Director: Patrick Lussier (all three Scream movies)

Cast: Christopher Plummer, Jonny Lee Miller(Trainspotting)

Category: Horror

Reviewed By: Clay

Plot: A group of very shortsighted thieves steal the remains of Dracula. As luck would have it they wake him up and the blood feast begins.

DVD Special Features: Commentary by director Patrick Lussier and writer Joel Soisson, Theatrical trailer(s), Making Of, Deleted Footage With Commentary, Storyboards, Audition Footage, Widescreen anamorphic format

Pleanty of extras for the vampire lover in you. Watching the auditions was interesting because it shows you how much the script changed from conception to screen. None of the audition dialogue was actually in the movie

The Good: It’s a vampire movie and that always is a good start. The writer puts together an interesting tale of the origins of Dracula. I will not give it away but is rather different.

Christopher Plummer makes a good Van Helsing. The back-story for him is also rather interesting.

The Bad: Whatever happened to T&A in the horror movies? This movie is set up to be a very sexy telling of the Dracula legend. The villain does a good job of surrounding himself with hot chicks, but they all manage to keep their clothes on.

The violence in this flick was also wanting. For a movie about bloodsucking it was rather tame. If it’s not going to be scary, gross or full of naked women, how can it be considered a horror movie?

Bottom Line: You want vampires, rent Near Dark.

Rating: One box of wine.
