Plot: This film is set in 1937 as the Japanese are beginning to occupy Shanghai. A classic "my Kung Fu school versus your Kung Fu school" movie. I am not truly doing the plot justice. Let’s simply say that it has the best plot that I have see in a Hong Kong Action film in a long time.DVD Special Features: Wide Screen, Dolby sound, Theatrical Trailer, reviewed on video. The Good: This is a great Hong Kong Action film. The martial arts are fantastic. Jet Li has terrific skills and this movie showcases every thing he brings to the table. The director uses self-control when making this movie. There is some wirework in this picture but it is limited. There is a nice mixture of one on one combat and group action. A variety of weapons is used, from samurai sword to the common belt (Jet is a bad ass with a belt). I like this being a period piece. The story was well told and this would be a great first movie for someone who wanted to know what Jet Li is all about. You can even watch this film with a date and she will enjoy it. The Bad: My only bitch is that the Japanese villain Jet fights at the end is too much of a bad ass. He takes too much damage and keeps on kicking. Other than that I can say nothing bad about it. Even the bad dubbing was OK because there was a story you needed to follow. Bottom Line: Buy this movie before I whip your ass with a belt. Rating: Five cocktails….. A Clay Pick!!!! |
