Plot: A Chinese fairy tale centered around true love and ass-kicking women. The plot could be a bad Shakespeare rip-off for all I know, but who really cares. Your girlfriend will love it, so be happy.DVD Special Features : Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby, Commentary by Ang Lee and James Schamus, Production notes, Theatrical trailer(s), The Making of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Conversation with Michelle Yeoh Featurette, Photo Montage, Talent Files, Link to website, Widescreen anamorphic formatFor the illiterate, one of the DVD options is for a dubbed English version. As my friend Key pointed out, you lose the intensity of the dialogue when you watch the dubbed version. You may not understand Mandarin, but you do understand the emotion in the actor’s voice. Don’t cop out--read the subtitles. Very solid special features. You will dig this movie even more after watching them. The Good: You will never see an ass kicking Kung Fu movie that your girlfriend will like so much. This movie is the complete package; action, plot, ass kicking. If we only could throw in some nudity I would never leave the theater.Ang Lee puts together an amazing world. This movie is a fairy tale and it is beautifully put together. I never question the rules in Ang’s world, I just enjoy being there. The cinematography is unbelievable. This movie is the Hong Kong Action opus for Ang. The quality and intensity of this movie will be the holy grail for all Hong Kong action directors. The Bad: This movie will disillusion all you guys who are looking for their submissive China girl (no dudes will be mentioned by name, but you know who you are). The women of this movie are the kung fu highlights. Good bye, submissive Asian woman stereotypes. Some people will bitch about the subtitles, but I am not one of them. Learn to read loser, get over the subtitles. Bottom Line: If you don’t buy this DVD I will jump off a bridge.Rating: Five cocktails….. A Clay Pick!!!! |
