Hold The Eggs

Computer games have a long tradition of hidden gags and extra material (dubbed Easter eggs). Many people love to go hunting for these quirky little tidbits of joy. There are literally thousands of websites dedicated to Easter eggs. For better or for worse, the eggs have invaded your favorite DVD’s.

I get why eggs are hidden in computer games. Since players are spending hundreds of hours looking for lost treasure, lets give them something special to find. I have seen some really entertaining eggs, and hats off to the programmers who hide them.

I personally find life is too short to be looking for eggs. If the DVD makers are going to all the trouble to make the content, why not share it with everyone? I don’t need my DVD to make me feel special, like I have some secret knowledge that no one else on my street has. Screw that, give me the special features in an easy-to-use manner and I am good to go.

Emails come in every day dropping the Dudes egg locations, and I figured I would pass on a few to you and let you be the judge. Here are this week’s eggs.

X-Men: On the "Theatrical Trailers and TV spots," click on the rose embedded in the menu. What’s in the egg? A short gag scene featuring a cameo by another leotard clad Marvel hero.

Boogie Nights: For you penis fans, Boogie Nights has got a good egg. Fast forward through the "Color Bars" option. What’s the egg? The test shots of the now famous Fake Penis (for those of you who didn’t know it wasn’t really Marky Mark’s pecker in the movie).

Gladiator: When in the "Trailers and TV spots" menu on disc 2, click on the eagle emblazned on Richard Harris’s armor. What’s the egg? A Gladiator-style ad for Chicken Run.

Let me know if you want more egg info, or think they suck. I can go both ways on this. If you want more eggs we will hook you up. As long as I don’t have to go find them I will spread the word.
