Sick day movies

By Clay

Recently a friend of mine had surgery and asked for a list of movies to watch while in recovery. While my first instinct was to just point her to the web site I figured a little more thought and effort was needed.

Here is the list of films that I put together. I jotted down a few micro reviews to assist in the selection process.

Comedies-

Best in show…. If you like dogs you will think this is funny…

Dodge Ball… If you like Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller this could be for you. A dumb movie for sure but I was still laughingSwingers… A classic if you haven’t seen it a must see. O Brother Where Art Thou…. Check it out is a lot of fun. A different side of George Clooney. Who knew the depression and jail breaks could be so much fun. Raising Arizona… Get into your way back machine for this one. Nick Cage and Holy Hunter. A personal favorite.

Indie movies

Lost in Translation… Bill Murrey is really good in this. A slower paced movie but interesting none the less. No one dies in this movie. Garden State…. I don’t know if this film is really indie but it has that feel. The guy from Scrubs is really good. Natalie Portman is really cute. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Drama’s

Manchurian Candidate- new version has Denzel and is good but rent the 60’s version it’s more intense- Matchstick Men…. If you con-man movies then you will enjoy this flick. Nick Cage is very good in this (I am a fan).

Fun Movies (family friendly)

Napoleon Dynamite…. If you haven’t seen this movie yet I will be amazed. Your girls will love it. Very quirky and dorky but that is its charm. Very low budget and small.Bend Like Beckham… A feel good movie about an India girl in London wanting to play soccer. A different kind of girl power movie with a little culture clash thrown in. I liked it.

Movies to prompt conversation

About Schmidt… Jack plays this one to the hilt. Makes you think about age and life. Love it or hate it will make you think. Some may find it a little slow. I found Jacks character so unlikable I wasn’t sure what I thought about the movie. Memento…. A thriller
