Plot: Three unrelated drug stories become intertwined. Each tale of the war on drugs bluntly makes it’s point on the failing battle on narcotics. You have a Drug Czar (Michael Douglas), a Mexican Cop (Benicio Del Toro), the drug dealers wife (Catherine Zeta Jones) and the U.S drug agents all dealing with drugs in their own special way.DVD Special Features : Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby, Theatrical trailer(s), Behind-the-Scenes Electronic Press Kit Materials, Showtime Special: Inside Traffic, Photo Gallery, TV Spots, Widescreen anamorphic formatThank god there was no directors commentary. I don’t know if I could stand listening to Soderbergh justify this movie. I will rant more about his later. The Good: All the actors and actresses did a great job with this totally unbelievable script. The poor actors can only work with what they have and in this movie it isn’t much. The Bad: This movie was the most over rated movie in 2000. Since 2000 was desperate for good films this one was elevated way beyond its merits. This is an average movie at best but somehow it got nominated for a fist full of academy awards.Steven Soderbergh has done some good films in the past. Sex Lies and Video tape was fabulous in its day. Unfortunately this movie is not his best effort. The direction in this movie is poor from start to finish. The much acclaimed filtering of the Mexico footage feels contrived and looks right out of someones filmschool semester project. If you want to see good use of color tricks try Oh Brother Where Art Thou. I wish the writer of this movie had been killed in traffic. None of this movie is believable. I don’t like to spoil plot twists but trust me all the plots are ridiculous. See my editorial for the spoilers if you want them. Bottom Line: Do not be sucked in by the hype… this movie sucks. Rent it if you must.Rating: Four Boxes of wine (because this movie is so over rated by most suckers) |
