Plot: Johnny Miller has a nowhere job and wants more from life. His best friend (Jude Law) is in the English Mafia and works him into the family business. For reasons unexplained, Johnny becomes a total psychopath and much blood is shed.DVD Special Features: Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Theatrical trailer(s),Widescreen letterbox format. You couldn’t get fewer special features on a DVD. But in retrospect you
probably don’t want more. The Good: I personally like the English spin on gangster movies. Director Dominic Aniciano is no stranger to the genre, having made The Krays back in the nineties. This is definitely not a sissy Euro movie.Johnny Miller is always good. I like his work. His character in the movie is a little thin, but he does the best he can with what he had. Jude Law is good looking, but doesn’t really bring his character to life. Oddly enough, there are some very funny parts to this movie. One of the thugs is having problems getting an erection and all of these scenes are funny, but just don’t fit into this movie. The Bad: This movie is a very weird blend of movies. It starts as a gangster movie and is OK at that for a while, then it makes an effort to be a black comedy. In the end it fails at being either. The entire time I am watching this, I feel like I am watching a Guy Richie knockoff. Unfortunately for them, Guy’s movies are much better.Bottom Line: Rent a Guy Richie movie; you will like it more.Rating: One box of wine |
