The director/writer commentary by Troy Duffy is really good stuff. If you are into the tribulations of an Indie director then it’s worth the listen. Duffy is more than a little bitter about how this movie came to be made (see review of Overnight ) but that just adds texture to the narrative.

The Good: The cast does a great job in this small hard edge crime flick. William DaFoe’s look totally plays into the crazy quirkiness of his character. The look feel of the cast really works.

The movie has a nice small feel to it. Duffy does a good job in the first half of the film bringing his characters along. The characters suck you into the story and the violence keeps it moving.

I have to thank Ray and Bill for turning me onto this film.  It had no theatrical release to speak of so most people have no idea what they are getting into.

Creative violence is always appreciated. When the violent clicks it is great in Saints. Unfortunately that complement leads me to the bad of the film.

The Bad: The level of violence goes from real and menacing too completely over the top. The violence gets more cartoonie as the movie progresses and it waters down the strong beginning.

If you don’t like edgy crime movies then this film is not going to be for you.

Bottom Line: If you want to see a good crime film check this out….. If you want to see a great crime film grab Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
