Plot: A quadriplegic criminal profiler chooses a gorgeous and smart beat cop to help him investigate a series of hideous kidnap-murders, in which the killer removes bones from his still-living victims.DVD Special Features: Widescreen, Director’s Commentary, Original Theatrical Trailer, Production Notes, Spotlight on Location The Good: Denzel Washington is terrific as the quadriplegic investigator unwillingly dragged into one more case. He has only his (beautiful) face to act with, and he does an amazing job. Angelina Jolie is also excellent in her role as a tough, defensive cop pushed to her limits. The story is creepy and entertaining, as the killer leads the cops into one horrible Rube Goldberg deathtrap after another. Some of the murders are creative in the extreme. (Steamed Lobster Woman is my personal favorite.) The screenwriter has done a good job of turning Jeffrey Deaver’s overwritten mess of a novel into a fairly entertaining movie. The Bad: The script has smoothed out a lot of Deaver’s gaping logic holes and comic book motivations, but not all of them. There are some truly ridiculous technical flaws in this flick (for instance, cops looking for fingerprints on a corpse that has been literally blasted with live steam). These are jarring enough to knock the discriminating viewer right out of the story. Bottom Line: An amusing movie, particularly if you love to look at Denzel or Angelina (or both). However, if you really like movies about serial killers who remove bones from their living victims, check out the made-for-HBO flick called "Bone Daddy," starring Rutger Hauer. It’s spookier, more gruesome, and just generally more fun. Rating: Three Bloody Marys
