Review: Ready To Rumble

Dir: Brian Robbins

Cast: David Arquette, Oliver Platt, Scott Caan

Category: Comedy

Reviewed By: Clay

Plot: Two complete losers live and die by their favorite wrestling star, Billy "The King." Unfortunately for the two Losers, the King has been banished from the ring and their lives now have no meaning at all. In an effort to make the world right again, they set out on a quest to bring back the King.

DVD Special Features: Region 1 encoding (US and Canada only), Color, Closed-captioned, Dolby, Widescreen, Surround Sound, Digital Sound, Commentary by David Arquette, Scott Caan and Ahmet Zappa, Theatrical trailer(s), Bif Naked "We're Not Gonna Take It" Music Video, WCW wrestlers interview gallery, Behind-the-scenes Up Close with the Nitro Girls and No Holds Barred

If you are a rassling freak these special features are for you. Just remember David Arquette may be retarded, so have mercy on him if you watch the commentary.

The Good: If Ray and I had flunked out of the sixth grade this would have been our lives. Caan and Arquette are completely believable as the near-retarded wrestling fans. They do a great job bringing this slice of Americana to the screen.

To enjoy this film you really need to be half drunk, a wrestling fan, and like very bad comedy. If that sounds like something you can sink your teeth into then this will be a classic for you.

The Bad: Jerry Lewis move over, Mr. Arquette is in town. This movie has a little more slapstick in it than I like to see. If you loved the Water Boy, you’ll like this movie.

Any time you have a movie about wrestling, they are always vicious to the wrestling fans (rightfully so). But isn’t ironic--they are the people who buy the tickets. When will the cycle of violence end?

Bottom Line: Pile driving fun (take that how you want to)…. A good rental

Rating: Two Cocktails.
