Plot: John Cusack and Billy Bob are a pair of hotshot air traffic controllers. Stress, liquor, a little sex and marital strife ensue. I could say more but it. s not worth the effort.DVD Special Features: Widescreen, Theatrical Trailers, Closed Captioned. Nothing of interest. The Good: I love John Cusack in a purely heterosexual way. The first half of the movie is John at his charming best working Billy Bob. s wife (who is fine). I liked the first half-hour of the movie. Billy Bob and John Cusack have a couple of quasi-zen moments that appealed to my Native American side. I could have done without the feather in Billy Bob. s head set ( I am serious, it. s there) but that. s just the conservative Indian in me. There was a definite moral to the story& Don. t fuck other people. s wives& .It gets in everybody. s head. Words to live by. The Bad: Did Mike Newell want to make a drama or a stress junky comedy film? There were two miserable attempts at drama, a bomb threat and a half-assed nervous breakdown. A few really bad attempts at madcap comedy and a lot of dead air in between. You never get to see what makes any of these characters tick. Why are both John Cusack and Billy Bob sucked into this self-destructive competition? Why is John cheating on his wife? What the hell is going on with Billy Bob and his hot wife? There is big difference between leaving mystery to a character and giving us nothing. Nothing is what we got. Bottom Line: If you are pissed at your girl friend rent it and tell her it. s a love story, otherwise leave it on the shelf. Rating: Two boxes of wine. |
