Review: Life Dir: Ted Demme Cast: Eddie Murphy & Martin Laurence Category: Comedy Reviewed By: Clay |

Plot: Two feuding buddies are wrongfully convicted of murder and are sentenced (you guessed it) to life in prison.DVD Special Features: Director’s Commentary, Trailers, Outtakes. I reviewed it on video so I have no comment on the special features (I would love to hear Demme justify this pig). The Good: Neither Eddie Murphy or Martin Lawrence are shown naked. I know it’s reaching but that’s all I can say. The Bad: The problem with most prison comedies (besides their settings) is that they always go for the cheap sodomy laughs. As this movie dragged along I began to pray that somebody would get used like a woman. Any laugh would have been a much-needed break from the monotony. It appeared that Ted could not decide whether this was to be a comedy or a drama. One moment he was heading toward drama then he would throw in a bad Murphy/Lawrence dialogue and that was the end of the tension. Eddie Murphy is a great character actor. Unfortunately he is drawn to bad make up like a crackhead to a free bowl. Walk away from the pipe Eddie. Bottom Line: This is a bad movie. Don’t rent it or buy it. Rating: Three boxes of cheap ass wine. |
