Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous

Dir: Michael Jann

Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Ellen Barkin, Kirstie Ally, Denise Richards

Category: Comedy

Reviewed By: Clay

Plot: This fake documentary film takes place in a small town in Minnesota. It follows the contestants through the rigors of beauty pageant life. .

DVD Special Features: Theatrical Trailer, Close Captioned. The special features are nearly non-existent. There is nothing to praise or criticize.

The Good: The movie just makes me want to go to Minnesota and have sex with teenage beauty contestants (just a joke). The chamber of commerce of Minnesota and the Lutheran church must have hated this movie because it successfully mocks them both.

The one-on-one scenes with the girls and townspeople were the best parst of this movie. You could hear real people from Minnesota saying the same scary things that the characters were.

Ellen Barkin was great as the trailer trash mother of Kirsten Dunst. Speaking of Ms. Dunst she is very cute in a midwestern way.

For odd but fantastic moments, there is the beauty contestant who does a reading from Soylent Green. A very nice scene with mass vomiting of contest winners.

The Bad: I give Michael Jann credit for his attempt at satire with this film. Unfortunately for him I always felt he could do a real documentary on Beauty Pageants and get a better film. Hell, in Texas you get real live murders with girls to compete for this type of stuff.

Denise Richards is insipid as always. I just can’t get over her inability to act. This Barbie clone brings me no wood. Some guys are wowed by her supernatural body but I need more, damn it.

The movie starts strong but rambles on at the end. This movie was only PG-13 but was screaming to be rated R. It could use a little T&A.

Bottom Line: Different kind of dark comedy that you can see with a date.

Rating: Two Cocktails.
