Review: America’s Sweethearts Cast: John Cusack, Katherine Zeta Jones, Julia Roberts Director: Joe Roth (Pacific Heights & Tomcats) Reviewed By: Clay |

Plot: John Cusack and Katherine Zeta Jones play famous movie stars who are in love. Not only are they in love but they are also block busting movie co stars. Their relationship comes to an end when Jones dumps Cusak. All this sets up a zany press junket where irony and true love come into play. DVD Special Features: Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby, Theatrical trailer(s), Deleted scenes, Widescreen anamorphic format I was surprised by the complete void in the special features. Usually the studio at least makes an effort to support the disk if Julia Roberts in on it. The Good: John Cusak does a good job as always with what he had. The press junket interviews were classic especially when he starts talking about threesomes. If you have to rent a chick flick, go John Cusak. There is a very odd cameo by Christopher Walken. You can never argue with a Walken cameo. He is becoming the Dennis Hopper of the new millennium. If you got a quirky bit part call Walken. The Bad: This is canned, stock romantic comedy stuff. No reality in this, or any other romantic comedy. Not that I care much about reality but the romantic ideal movies like this fuel is horrible. Something about Billy Crystal rubs me the wrong way. While this is his best performance in years its still Billy being Billy. Bottom Line: If you have to wear a skirt and rent the chick flick this is better than most. Rating: One Box of Wine (because it is a chick flick) |
