Plot: Thank God the plot in this Mission Impossible is better than the first one. Keep in mind the that the plot is merely a host to some incredible action sequences. There is a killer virus that is about to be unleashed upon the world and Tom Cruise and his team must save the world. I have simplified the plot but it really doesn' t matter. If you are looking for a heady intellectual film put this one down. DVD Special Features: Region 1 encoding (US and Canada only), Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby, Commentary by director John Woo, 15-minute "Behind the Mission" exclusive cast and crew interviews, Five-minute "Mission Incredible" stunts featurette "Impossible Shots", Exclusive interviews with John Woo, Tom Cruise, stunt coordinator Brian Smrz and others, Metallica's music video of "I Disappear", Alternate title sequence, MTV Movie Awards show parody, "Mission Improbable" with Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller and John Woo., Widescreen anamorphic formatThe special features in this movie are great. Watching how they did some of the stunts really makes the scenes that much more incredible. I really enjoyed all of the special features. That said, the cast and crew really overdo their Tom Cruise praise. Did he do a hell of a job on the stunts? Yes. Is he the new messiah? No. You can' t blame the cast for pumping the guy up; they want to work for him again. If you can get past the Tom Cruise love you should enjoy the featurettes. The Good: Always remember that John Woo is the man and you will be fine in the land of action movies. Nobody puts together an action sequence quite like Mr. Woo. I love the look that he puts on his films. This film delivers the big action that it promises. Do you believe that half of it could happen? No. But is it great to watch? Yes. While Tom Cruise is only four-foot tall he brings it hard in this movie. I thought he did a great job with this movie. He looked good in action and most importantly of all I did not feel like I was watching Maverick the spy. The Bad: The whole love story portion of this movie really slowed it down. There is a lull in the middle of this movie that is really slow. I appreciate what John Woo was trying to do with the love interest but I could have seen less of it and still gotten his point. Bottom Line: Grab your two pistols and a few pigeons--John Woo has done it again. Rating: Four Cocktails. |
