Review: Lake Placid Dir: Steve Miner Cast: Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson Category: Action By: Frank |

|
Plot: A pleasant serene lake in Maine is the habitat for some nasty killer critter. Fish and Game officer Jack Wells (Pullman), County Sheriff Hank Keough (Gleeson), eccentric rich adventurer Hector Cyr (Platt) and museum historian Kelly Scott (Fonda) are the team gathered to investigate the mysterious deaths at the lake. The tension of the film comes from the characters and their interactions on the best methods to undertake the mission. Special Features: Region 1 encoding (US and Canada only), Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby, Theatrical trailer(s), Promotional Featurette (5:34 min.), 3 TV Spots, Widescreen letterbox format. No much in the way of special features. The Good: Some solid characters and solid dialogue make the film very enjoyable. Oliver Platt is great but Betty White really steals every scene she’s in as Mrs. Delores Bickerman. This movie pulls off the special effects that Deep Blue Sea failed. Steve Miner also directed one of my favorites, "House" and has a real talent for making characters interesting. If you liked Deep Rising you’ll like Lake Placid. The Bad: Nothing, but don’t expect a really serious film. Bottom Line: If you like witty horror films you’ll like this one. Rating: 4 PBRs for great campy dialogue. |
