Plot: Team of crack researchers enlarge the brains of sharks in an attempt to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Smart sharks begin to think bad thoughts and eat everyone in sight.DVD Special Features: Director’s commentary, some of Samuel L. Jackson’s commentary, HBO Documentary "When Sharks Attack" (you have gotta love this part), Deleted Scenes, Wide Screen. This disk is full of extras. They add great value to the DVD. The Good: This is a shark movie. If you like movies with sharks eating people you will love this movie. If you don’t like shark movies don’t bother. As shark movies go it’s not bad. Definitely not Jaws but its not Jaws 4 either. LL Cool J does a good job of playing the cook. Ever since Under Siege you always have to give the cook some respect. LL Cool J is keeping real, and he’s the only enjoyable character in the movie. The Bad: This is a shark movie. You always know how they are going to end, it’s just a question of how many people get eaten. Director Harlin Renny (Die Hard 2) generally makes a good looking film, and this one is halfway there. Problem is, this movie would have been better on the big screen. The special effects did not transfer well to video. Poor Samuel Jackson was saddled with a very weak part and was killed off far too early in the film. I think they must have run out of money to pay him so they had to feed his character to the sharks. Bottom Line: Not total crap but I wouldn’t buy it. Rating: One weak cocktail |
