This web site was established because Ray, Frank, Bill, Lorelei and I love watching movies. The good, the bad, the ugly, it doesn't matter. We are constantly discussing, arguing and ranting at each other about the merits of our favorite films. This site is dedicated to giving you the low down on movies. We want to you to know what you are getting into before you buy it or rent it.
Most movie reviewers are elitist snobs. They still pine for Citizen Kane or the next Meryl Streep release. If you had your average critic make his list of top five movies you would get a bunch of crap from the 1950's. At Filmdudes it's ok to like contemporary films. The Filmdudes are not about the high art of cinema; it's about movies that we enjoy. You will find that each one of us has our own taste in films and we have supplied you with our Top Five Picks for you to use as a guide to our preferences.
At Filmdudes we are honest in our praise and in our scorn. If a film taste of ass (that is not a good thing) we will tell you. Please feel free to drop us an e-mail with your thoughts and death threats.

The end of the year is a crazy time for movies. The box office is all about the Oscar race and showcasing Hollywoods best and brightest. In contrast the DVD market you are getting all of the summers best and worst. Makes it a very confusing time for the movie watcher. You can watch the horrible Fantastic Four at home or go see Capote on the big screen. Life is about choices. Good luck.

To understand our rating scale (and life) you must remember two thing's ..Boxes of Wine are bad .. Cocktails are good. With that as a backdrop you are half way home to understanding our scale.
All ratings are on a scale of 1-5. One cocktail good .. Five Cocktails and it's a classic. For perspective, one cocktail movie is not bad it's just a little on the weak side.
The Box of Wine side of the scale are all the bad things in movies. One Box-O-Wine is bad; two is worse and so on. Our analogy is just think of how bad you feel after drinking box wine. That's how bad you will feel after watching one of these films.
Things get a little twisted when you hit the five Box-O-Wine Rating. These films are so bad that they really are classics and really entertaining. Showgirls is a classic 5 Box-O-Wine movie, its awful but at some point it crosses over and becomes slightly sick art.
There was much debate at Filmdudes as to whether to have a rating scale. After many fistfights and cocktails this is what we came up with. Take it for what it is, a quick summery of a review.
Here at Filmdudes we have no thumbs but lots of middle fingers!
